The powerful Roman Empire, which had ruled the western world, was gone. But the church wasn't! It had the incredible privilege of being the leading force in Europe. How did it handle that opportunity, especially when Roman mistakes had made life after their empire so very difficult? How were the developing nations and the feudal system affected?
Humanistic historians call the early medieval centuries 'dark,' partly because they were so religious. TruthQuest History reveals different causes for the darkness, ones that modern Christians must understand. We face the same challenges...and opportunities!
The kids will go to battle with dashing knights and storm mighty castles, but they'll also see the deeper currents and the slowly upwelling spring of humanism that would overflow in the subsequent Renaissance period. Now they'll know why!
Ideally for Grades 5-12, but younger siblings can participate. Includes book recommendations for all ages, where available.

Our Map/Timeline/Report Package provides everything you need to help your child learn when and where events happened: maps, reproducible timeline, timeline markers, mini-timeline cards, report ideas, and more. In addition to creating a timeline with markers, you can, for example, spread the mini-timeline cards across the living-room floor and challenge your student to put them in chronological order. The cards can also be used as flashcards for families on the go, and even as a matching game! This package also includes many historical figures to color, maps to mark, plenty of helpful report forms (Soldier report, country report, etc.), and lesson-planning forms for Mom!
